We expect that BunkerTrust will assist us in creating the much-needed transparency in the bunkers industry and provide valuable insights into how DFDS can improve its overall bunkering process,” says Thomas Mørk (right), VP and head of Technical Organisation. DFDS is as all shipowners depending on reliable delivery of fuel for the ships. This fuel – or bunkers as it is called in the industry – is delivered by bunker barges when ships are in port. And as in all industries and service areas, there are good and not so good providers of the bunker services. But where users have been able to share experiences and rate the services in many other areas, such as well-known platforms in the travel industry, customers of bunkers companies did not have this possibility. But in November 2017, the company BunkerTrust created a platform where user companies getting bunker fuel deliveries could rate their experiences with the companies and barges delivering the fuel.
“BunkerTrust is enabling the ships to rate the supplier, bunker barge and entire bunker delivery on parameters such as service level, operational performance, quantity- and quality, each time a bunker delivery takes place,” says Nicolai Andersen, superintendent of DFDS Technical Organisation.
“Today, about 250 ships rate their bunkers deliveries on a regular basis via BunkerTrust, and DFDS is among the 23 shipowners using the platform. The ship’s chief engineer rates the delivery based on the subjective overall experience after the bunker operation e.g. service level and communication, as well as based on quantitative measures such as quality, quantity, timing, barge delay, etc.,” Nicolai says. Furthermore we are continuously developing the platform in partnership with BunkerTrust.
BunkerTrust gathers a lot of very important data about bunkers and bunkers supply, which the users can benefit from. “We expect that BunkerTrust will assist us in creating the much-needed transparency in the bunkers industry and provide valuable insights into how DFDS can improve its overall bunkering process,” says Thomas Mørk, VP and head of Technical Organisation.
